I never saw the Chosin. But I was within walking distance of
it, I guess. I learned at a recent company reunion that one of our patrols
reached the banks of the reservoir. I think we were attached to the 32nd
Inf. Regiment at the time.
I looked at the maps and saw where units were strung out in
rather random locations around the reservoir. It seemed to me that when we were
on the move we just dug in wherever nightfall happened to catch us. Were these
strategic locations? Or were y'all just moving north, and happened to be at
these locations the night the Chinese attacked.
I thought I knew about the war. I was there! But I'm finding
out I really don't know a damned thing about it.
