There are changes like that all over the map of the former European colonies. The Gilbert Islands of which Tarawa is an atoll is now known as Kiribati. Ceylon is now known as Sri Lanka. Burma is now known as Myanamar. In studying the history of a period, it is foolish to translate the names from that period by which a place is now known. It serves no useful purpose other than to kow tow to those who would wish things to be politically correct. Any changes after the period could very easily be annotated by a footnote. That's my opinion anyway,
