Hi, fellow grunts -
It seems it's a 'dog-meat-eat' bashing time again
with the Asia Game in Pusan coming up.
I wonder how many of you guys have seen
Koreans eating dog-meat soup - 'boshingtang' (see http://www.kimsoft.com/2002/eatdogs.htm
for some background info).
Some ignorant folks claim dog-eating started during
the Korean War. By the time the war started, there were not many dogs
in Korea. Why? During WWII, the Japanese were worried that dogs
might go crazy and bite/eat people during American bomb raids and ordered all
dogs killed.
Dog wardens went around searching for dogs
house to house. Any dog found was snagged with a large metal hook and
killed. Dog wardens were paid in
kind: they sold their catch to restaurants and other consumers and
pocketed the money. They also ate dog-meat meals free.
How do I know this? Well, I was there and
they got my killed my pet dog right in front my eyes.
Koreans and many other Asians have been eating dogs
for many centuries. In fact, the Ute and other Indians, they came from
Asia, used to eat dogs, too.
Have I eaten dog-meat? Yes, of course!
I love it. Would I eat my daughter's shitzu? No way! There are
eating kinds of dogs and pet kinds of dogs. The former look more
like wild dogs, pigs, cows, etc.
