An American Defector is married to a Japanese
abductee.
"Another woman, Hitomi Soga, who was abducted from secluded Sado island while shopping with her mother in August 1978, married a former American soldier who deserted his U.S. Army post in South Korea in 1965. Pyongyang said Soga was abducted with the help of a Japanese operative it refused to identify. Soga, now 43, married Charles Robert Jenkins, now 62, in 1980, Abe said. The couple has two daughters, ages 19 and 17, who are students at the Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies, Abe said. North Korea has said that Jenkins is a citizen of that nation. The U.S. military in South Korea did not immediately have more information on him. Jenkins was among four American defectors the Pentagon requested contact with in 1997 to determine whether he knew about other Americans in North Korea. The North Koreans said then that Jenkins and the three others were living in North Korea by choice and did not wish to talk to U.S. officials. " ysk
