What were those radios called? The ones the guys carried on
their backs? SR 300? Anyway, they had this long aerial. Once, when we were
moving up in 6X6s, our radio man saw a Korean peddling along the side of the
road on his bicycle. He stuck the aerial out the side of the truck, and as we
passed him it struck the Korean in the back. He went one way, and his bike
went the other. We got a big laugh out of this, and the radio man played this
game until he got tired of it. I guess it doesn't take much to amuse a person,
if he is 19 years old, and may be riding to a sudden death.
I stopped telling this story when I found civilians weren't
amused by it. Even those who asked, "Did you ever kill anybody?"
