the Naktong in early August, an Arty officer was in our CP, talking to someone
on his radio. A sp shell hit nearby, and he signed off saying, I gotta go -
someone has Inspire CP zeroed in. Very soon after, all hell broke loose. Someone
was listening.

Once, we were scouting for the 187th Airborne, and we were sent out to
locate the enemy. We came under fire from the enemy, then radioed for the
troopers to come in with a larger force and engage them. We were lolling
beside the road, smoking cigarettes, when suddenly mortar rounds began
exploding around us. I was sitting near the radioman, and I heard one of
our officers radio back saying we had reached our objective, and didn't need
the mortar fire. I heard some excited guy shout over the radio, "Sir, them
ain't our mortars!" I rolled into the ditch while the officer ran down
the road shouting, "Hit the dirt! Take cover!"
