Uh, Sandy? Planet Earth to Sandy? Check the record. MacArthur was what
would now be known as a liberal Republican -- his closest political
cronies, Hoover and the like, were hardly on the Taft wing, and it was
Taft's refusal to have ANYTHING to do with "that left-wing MacArthur" which
threw the 1952 nomination to the moderate nebbish, Eisenhower.

Again, the record on this one is clear: MacArthur was a moderate liberal,
and so were his political friends.

And I suppose I'll now be exposed to some incoherent responses. If so,
Sandy, hold your peace. Read and learn. Talk with the surviving politicos
of the era. Then let's talk -- but, let's do so off-list, as we are
pushing the limits of what is, after all, a military history list.
