HAHAHA. A friend of mine from Florida took his furlough at Ft. Sam and
stopped off to visit with me for a couple of days before heading home. When he
left, I rode the bus as far as New Orleans with him, and we went out for a night
on the town there. I was dancing with a pretty woman, and she joined me at our
table. My friend and I were both in uniform, and she seemed impressed
with a couple of "war heroes." When she went to the rest room my friend pointed
out he was actually a she. When I argued with him, he got a program that showed
he was a female impersonator, and one of the featured entertainers there. We
quickly left .... but "she" sure was pretty.

As I remember, it was "Finochios," and the place was oriented
towards those of the third sex. There was a bar on Georgia Street in Vallejo
(or as we called it Valley-Jo) that had an advertisement in its window with
two photos side by side. One photo was of a man, and another was the same
person in female drag at "Finochios." Wasn't that in the International
Settlement in S.F.?

My only reception upon return
to the States was at Pinoccios (sp?) in San Francisco, when the Head Waiter
informed us that they do not serve men in uniform. We didn't whine, we just
said,"Fuck you" and left.
