Vallejo was well-known for commercial affection. When I was at Ft.Ord I
went home for Christmas in 1949 with a buddy who lived in Napa. Vallejo is one
of the first places we visited.

I
remember a sign I saw years ago - The Lark Rooms, 10 Georgia Street, Vallejo.
A dollar an inch - over ten inches, they pay you.
Speaking of Vallejo, Does anyone remember the Horse Scow, a submariner
hangout visible for their model submarine on the roof ? Lots of memorabilia of
the submarine service. Hope it went somewhere it is taken care
of.
As I remember, it was "Finochios," and the place
was oriented towards those of the third sex. There was a bar on Georgia
Street in Vallejo (or as we called it Valley-Jo) that had an advertisement
in its window with two photos side by side. One photo was of a man, and
another was the same person in female drag at "Finochios." Wasn't that in
the International Settlement in S.F.?

My only reception upon
return to the States was at Pinoccios (sp?) in San Francisco, when the
Head Waiter informed us that they do not serve men in uniform. We didn't
whine, we just said,"Fuck you" and left.
