Re: No Gun Ri

My big objection to the No Gun Ri story was that it was presented as some deep, dark secret. Everyone in Korea was quite aware of the problems with civilians in combat zones, and most of us knew that we could not save Korea if we allowed enemy infiltrators behind us.

That is true Gene. It would have been simpler if the refugees had headed north instead of south. Even the North Korean refugees came south.

I may have misread your original post, Cookie.  It seemed to me that you were tagging historians with the blame for the No Gun Ri "story."  Sorry.

Bateman's book is so far doing a pretty good job of standing on its merits.

No argument here! But when very obviously biased journalists pass off their "discoveries" as "history" a true, objective, dedicated historian has to get out there as fast as possible before their "discovery" becomes "fact" and then "Myth". There are still the dimly aware who want to believe the worst and are trying to discredit Mr. Bateman as a "shill" for the government, more's the pity.
