Ah! MacArthur disliked Almond for many reasons but, most especially,
because of Almond's dismal performance as the commander of a Black division
in Italy in the Second World War. (Almond stated that the Blacks were
unable to fight and asked that his division be disbanded!).

Almond was foisted on MacArthur by his brother-in-law, George Catlett
Marshall, another great bigot. And MacArthur tried to use Almond in a
tactical capacity at the urging of Marshall.

Blame MacArthur for many things. Blame Almond on VMI and Marshall. And it
is significant to note that Almond went on to some really high-level jobs
long after MacArthur was history -- so long was the tail of George Catlett
Marshall.
