Amen to that!

One of the factors was the integration of the Marine air-ground team which made the Army look up and take notice. They pushed the Air Force for similar capabilities but the latter wouldn't make the effort.

Up until June 1950 the Bomber Barons ruled that service. They sold Truman on the idea of winning wars on the cheap, using SAC, which, they claimed nullified the need for naval and military ground forces.
