Once again you err. Gen. Smith would NEVER disobey a direct order, nor did he in this instance. He indeed fought his Division as he saw tactically sound, and advanced with proper dilligence at a pace slower than Almond desired, but he did not ignore his orders.

I mentioned all of the UN forces (referring to countries involved). No one, not even General O. P. Smith, could have anticipated the Chinese entering the war while the UN was racing up the peninsula, to the Yalu River. But, you are correct in noting that once in that vicinity, the General Smith took the appropriate precautions to protect his MSR and retained contiguity among the 3 infantry regiments. He did this against the orders of General Almond who wanted Smith to move his regiments further apart. It turned out Smith as usual was right.
