Sam Kim, you asked for first-hand accounts of pre-war Korea.  I read a synopsis the book "Medic," a first-person memoir by Crawford Sams, that says it covers pre-war public health concerns in Japan and, possibly, Korea.  May be another source for you.  Has anyone else on the list read it?

Well, here's the setup, I wanted to get political or military info on the
conditions in Korea.  Time period being from 1947-Jun. 24,1950.  I've read
about 8 different books, all of whom are secondary sources (book writers,
doctorate students, political scientists, etc.)  I am trying to get in touch
with folks who were on the ground, in the area.  Folks who may have been a
part of K.M.A.G., journalists, or anyone who would've actually seen
conditions, possibly without biases that would swayed their view of what was
actually going on.  The problem I'm seeing is, most of those interviewed for
books or magazine articles tend to be biased.  Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

I do not know if I can help but I was one of the first American as
Occupation Force
into Taegu,Korea. I was there from Sept. 1945 to Feb. 1946

Anyone have any info on Pre-Korean War conditions?  I'm writing a

paper on the time period right before the war.  Any primary sources
(actually participants) would be greatly appreciated.
