I was on Paengnyong-do for nine months in 1951. I was given the only B.A.R. on the island because I was the only one in the small group that knew how to field strip and clean the thing. At least that is what I was told. Being the youngest and greenest troop I believed what I was told. I never fired the rifle in anger.
