Again, partially off topic (VN) but we sent advisors and engineers to VN
as early as late 1955 and by 1958 had a growning presence there of Special
Forces, plus engineers laying out future air bases, ports, etc as well
logistics people setting up requirements. These troops operated in
civilian clothes/sterile fatigues and carried passports identifying them
as civilian workers for this or that private company or government agency.
