I can' remember anyone sweating out the draft in 1949. They were
dismantling the Army when I enlisted. It was easy to get out. Several times,
while I was taking basic training, several times they announced that if anyone
wanted to be discharged all they had to do was ask.

Can someone explain the US draft system as it existed in June 1950? What was the target age? How were they selected for service? (All had to serve?) How long did they have to serve? Thanks, jk |
