As I recall, many of the POW camps on Koje-do were
guarded by SK troops, who did horrible things to their fellow countrymen.
In fact, North Koreans preferred to be captured or guarded by Yanks than SK
troops.
There was a camp for female POWs on Koje and many
babies were born - there were some white and black babies but the majority of
the babies were Korean.

During The Korean War'
Thankfully I was home by then, but the Commies
mounted a very successful campaign to generate unrest in the camps, a surprise
to us convention adhering soldiers. As for the names soldiers called
Orientals, does anyone know the names Orientals called us? Riflemen are not
trained prison guards. What was needed was several divisions of MP's and a
willingness to shoot any prisoner seen agitating. The two prisoners I
personally took were well treated while in my custody.
