If your question relates to the final battles of 1953, the 5th and 7th Marines
were heavily involved. The Division Command Diary indicates 169 kia , 1211
wia, and 104 missing. As I recall, the battles for Vegas cost 30-35 Marine
KIA, and somewhat over 100 wounded. Ther were MIA's but can't recall number.
The Marines held the hill at the end and were later relieved by the Turks
who, after incredibly valiant fighting, lost the OP to the Chinese. My First
Marines were moved up to re-take Vegas, waited in position in fighting holes
for five days until Gen. Bruce Clark, 1Corp Commander called of the attack.
Can anyone tell me if there were any known
survivors of the Vegas Outpost?? Or if anyone recalls a PFC William Gayhart--H-3-5th
marines.....his body was never returned home......thank you
