Virus attacks

Bob,
Viruses that make it to list members via KOREAN-WAR-L are almost nonexistent. However, the Klez virus has "cloned" or "spoofed" the KOREAN-WAR-L email address as the SENDER email address and sent itself to list members whose email addresses happen to be in the infected computer's address book. Thus, some recipients think the virus came from KOREAN-WAR-L when it did not.

There is an alternate possibility: It could be that someone is using an anonymous email program and is using the KOREAN-WAR-L email address as the supposed sender, then deliberately sending the virus to those list members he/she/it has email addresses for. To have this happen means that the someone would have been a list member at one time and gathered list member's email address from posts made to the list.

Bottom line is: Never add an attachment to a post going to list members via the KOREAN-WAR-L discussion list address AND NEVER open an attachment supposedly coming from the list.

Regards
