Thae Son Hui, Korea's first woman pilot
Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- If the US imperialists
unleash another war of aggression, far from drawing a lesson from their
ignominious defeat in the last Korean War (June 1950-july 1953), I will
participate in the war again as a pilot, said Thae Son Hui, who is a lecturer in
the victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum. She, 75, is the first pilot of
Korea who performed feats in the hard-fought Korean War.
Born in a foreign country in September Juche 17
(1928), she keenly experienced the sorrow of the stateless people. Having
returned to Korea after the liberation of the country, she joined the army and
began to receive flight training in 1949. As soon as the war broke
out, she took part in many air combats.
In September 1951, a task to destroy the commanding
post and other military facilities of the enemies on Taehwa islet was assigned
to her.
She successfully fulfilled the task with a
low-altitude flight and a surprise attack. She also bombed the
enemies' oil tank and military facilities in Inchon and killed a large number of
enemies and destroyed their combat equipment in other air fights. She was
awarded the Title of Hero of the DPRK in November 1951.
