It has been years, but S.L.A. Marshall wrote a book called THE RIVER AND 
THE GAUNTLET.  It is based on after action reviews, unit histories and 
also Marshalls interviews.  I remember reading it at Camp Howze, Korea, 
but that was almost 20 years ago.   I think I had this book somewhere but 
may have loaned it to my Uncle (now deceased) a Korean War vet.  

The Army's Korean War Histories, Naktong to Yalu (the black books) also 
has some good chapters on 2d ID's withdrawal.  Not as much press as X 
Corps, but there were no Marines on that side of Korea.
