Re: Vets, "Where Ya Been?"

Bob, Jerry, in order to prevent clogging up the Web Site with our chatter why don't we use our personal mail boxes?  I'm sure some of the soreheads will appreciate that.  Jerry, I have your address but Bob I need yours.  Mine is bjscott@adelphia.net

Jerry, isn't it strange how we still use the term "real milk" after more than 50 years? I think maybe maybe we missed milk more anything else. I know I did.

   Bill
I went over on the USNS Gen Weigel , shipping out of New Orleans . We were very growded and was on that ship 30 days before landing at Hokkido , Japan .
Sure was good to get off that ship after being on it all that time except for 4hours at Balboa Panama Canal
Zone .
I came back on the USNS Gen Polk , landing at the
Presido , in San Francisco then a ferry to Camp Stoneman at about midnight . That was the first place any one treated us decent ,they took us to mess halls at that late hour and fed us roast turkey
mashed potatos ,gravey , real milk , then ice cream .
I'll never for get that .
From there I went by troop train to Camp Carson ,Colo . My wife and
two little boys was waiting for me at near by Colorado Springs . My mustering out pay was $300 .
I Wanted to get away some place and not see people
so we used most of the $300 to make the down payment on a cabin in the mountains on 3 acers of vertical land . The cabin had no running water , an out house and a wood burning stove for heat .
But we made it just fine .
