Vincent,
They and he were in the process of disbanding the Corps when the Korean War broke out and Mac Arthur told the Joint Chiefs "I need Marines". They went ashore at Pusan as a Provisional Brigade, reversed the tide in the hills to the west of Pusan, defeated two large formations of NKPA Forces in the 1st and 2nd Battles of the Naktong, formed up with the rest of the Division and Landed at Inchon. The rest is History.
For the record the whole 1st Marine Division was not used in the September 15th landing at Inchon. Only two of the three 1st Marine Division's regiments made the landing. The 5th Marines "formed up" with the 1st Marine Regiment for the Landing. On September 15th the 7th Marine Regiment had yet to arrive in Korea and "formed up" with the 1st and 5th regiments about September 20th on the outskirts of Seoul. The three regiments that made up the 1st Marine Division were and still are the 1st, 5th and 7th.
