Since Truman has been bit of a subject here, I am trying to remember exactly what Truman did to the military back in 1948 while I was taking basic at Fort Knox, KY in the 3rd Armored Div.

At the time, I think we were being paid about $22.00 a month, then Truman reduced me a rank, from Private to Recruit, and after basic, went back to Private.

I seem to remember, the military was not paying income tax when Truman gave me a pay raise, then the tax kicked in and I ended up with less money per month.  It may have been social security, but am leaning more towards the income tax.

I picked a school to attend, when upon graduation, I would be promoted to Cpl., except the week before graduation, all ranks were frozen, so I remained a Private.

Did not get PFC. until the middle of 1949 when in the 712th Eng. Depot.
Yes, I sure remember Truman.
