IIRC Income tax kicked in effective July 1, 1949. And as I remember it my
pay went up to $81.00 a month as a Pvt E-2 but, like you, ended up with
less take-home because of Income Tax. I can't remember if jump pay was $55
a month back then or not but for some reason the figure $35 a month sticks
in my mind.
