Re: Weird happenings to the listproc

Just a thought but maybe there's a worm involved.  Yesterday, I just deleted all my "messenger-like" (YAHOO & MSN) programs because they leak "worms" like mad.  Things like KAZAA_lite_172, AIM, and a few other P2P programs will cause all kinds of uninvited trouble.  These programs--P2P--mean your computer is open to the PUBLIC while they gather--say songs--from your disks and you gather songs from their disks!!  I also use a FIREWALL and two anti-virus programs because I have too much invested in my book on the Korean War.

At least every 3 days I delete ALL COOKIES and TEMP. INTERNET FILES  all listed under C:\WINDOWS on my "C" HardDrive!  Be very careful here as you might delete files similarly named but that are actually OPERATING FILES!!!

Just make sure you're in the C:\ drive, that you move to the folder called "WINDOWS."  Double-Click this "WINDOWS FOLDER" and up will come, in alphabetical order, "COOKIES" and towards the bottom, "TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES."  By double-clicking these two FOLDERS--naturally you must paint all of the files or use the SELECT ALL command--until one after the other is finished and emptied--then hit DELETE!

However...there is ONE PROBLEM HERE!  If you use SELECT ALL (while in COOKIES BUT NOT THE TEMP INTERNET FILES) you will NOT be able to DELETE ALL the files in COOKIES because the very first file at the top of COOKIES is a DAT file and it must remain.  To get around this I simply ignore SELECT ALL and instead click the control button EDIT (at the top of WINDOWS EXPLORER) and select "INVERT SELECTION."  All the files should now be highlighted except the very top DAT file.  If it's highlighted then unhighlight it by clicking only on IT!

Then before DELETING all the highlighted files in this COOKIES FOLDER I make sure where I am and then use the mouse to control the final DELETION!  Your COOKIES folder should now be empty except for that top DAT file.  Exit out of COOKIES and do the same procedure on the TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES.  You will then be rid of all the "troublemakers" that cause your computer to balk and stall and often crash!

Just remember to be precise and accurate in selecting these two--and only these two secondary FOLDERS under the C:\WINDOWS FOLDER--before you delete all the files in "COOKIES" & "TEMP. INTERNET FILES."

By deleting these files on a reg. basis--at least once a week--then run SCANDISK right after you've deleted these TWO SECONDARY Folders OF WINDOWS, you'll at least know you've done all you can to reduce & maybe eliminate the POPUPS and POPUNDER ADS from hitting you--maybe even hanging up your computer.  You'll see an overall speed increase immediately!   But KEEP your NORTON/SYMANTEC or McAfeeVIRUSscan always ON!  Here's an example of 2 viruses and worms that I was just notified about from McAfee:
Current Threats
Hope the other problem is solved easily and quickly.
