| Joe, Given the predelictions of many ground troops about aircraft and the fact that we do know that the Yak-17UTI was present in theater -- with one semi-confirmed shootdown by a F3D-2 -- I wonder if these were Chinese pilots or Soviet observers in those aircraft? A Yak-17 has the underwing tip tanks similar to an F-80 and could be mistaken by those not real familiar with the '80 at a distance. That would make more sense to me -- as well as the non-firing passes as well. (Remember that it was only about eight years ago the mystery bomber from September 1950 was revealed to be an A-20G and not the other guesses people had made.) Cookie Sewell AMPS |
