Last week, on the History Channel, there was a story about the English using a Tri Motored German plane on a mission into Germany someplace.

That was a surprise to me, as I did not think you could do that under the so called Rules of War.

Not that the Germans were so exemplary in their conduct, but I believe they put together B-17s and attempted to infiltrate our [U.S.] formations.  I do not think they were terribly successful with it.  They did infiltrate U.S. lines at the Battle of the Bulge with captured equipment and German troops dressed in U.S. uniforms.  At least a couple of these were shot by firing squads.

England was full of German aircraft shot down, so it would not be a great deal to put one back together.  As to aircraft, I always thought we were the first with the double tailed fighter, like the P-38, then I saw on TV that the Germans had one long before we did.  I know the P-51 was hooked up with two engines and two fuselages for a time.  I often wondered if any of those were still around.

When I arrived in Korea, we were only using jets for air support, but the Australians were flying the P-51 and when they flew near us, we could tell by that Rolls engine who was in the area.  They were the most beautiful sight to see when they came in. All had different colored nose cones, wing and tail colors

Didn't the Marines provide close air support with Corsairs {F4U] or was this prior to your arrival?
