Re: Anyone want to reply to Jan?

According to The Complete Encyclopedia of World Aircraft, published by
Barnes & Noble, 2002, the Po-2 is a later version of the Polikarpov U-2
which dates to the late 1920s. The Encyclopedia states the following:

"After Polikarpov's death on 30 July 1944, the U-2 was redesignated the
Po-2 in his honor, and post-war it continued in production in the Soviet
Union for several years. Trainer and ambulance variants were built on a
large scale in Poland from 1948 to 1953. Po-2s served many Soviet allies and
the total built is reported to be in excess of 33,000."
Some of the Polish CSS-13 versions had glazed cabins over cockpits. The
CSS-S-13 Polish ambulance version had a canopy over the cockpits for pilot
and medical attendant and an enclosed section for several stretcher patients
in the rear.
Although early models of the U-2 had small, 100-hp radial engines, later
models had engines as large as 200-hp. The aircraft were obviously slow, but
were also quite maneuverable and easily and cheaply maintained.

If Jan is interested, I can send a color drawing of the Po-2 upon request.
