Re: revising air war kill tallies
joe b:
fascinating stuff! is the "underclaim" phenomenon only
from the first part of the war, or is it just the
early accuracy of the soviet records that establishes
this possibility?
(side question: why do the soviet records go down in
quality as the war progresses...if that is what you
were saying?)
you & cookie both mention the overall claim vs. actual
kill percentage of the USAF as around 70-75%... is
there a further breakdown of this by time period,
squadron, or even pilot? were some individuals or
units percentage of overclaims higher than others? do
some timeframes of the war show higher or lower
percentages of overclaims, e.g. 1951 vs 1953, or does
the USAF show this 70-75% across the board?
i don't ask this to point a finger at anyone or any
squadron, just to try to get a handle on how the
process worked, and if it had variances within the air
force....
thanks again, jose
