pete fernandez project
hello KU korean war board, it's me again, jose
castillo. thanks once more to cookie and mr. brennan
and everyone else for the terrific deluge of
information about korea air war kills two weeks ago.
it has been extremely helpful for me to be informed of
the different "schools of thought" regarding
interpretation of soviet archival material. (i've
since had the chance to read "red wings over the
yalu," which has further fleshed out the picture.)
i would like to make one more request to the group: i
am collecting information on my uncle for a
biographical sketch of some sort. he was pete
fernandez, the third-leading ace of the korean war.
the information i have compiled so far can be seen at
a website on his life i have set up. the URL# is:
http://home.comcast.net/~breathingzugisland/wsb/html/view.cgi-home.html-.html
what my research sorely lacks thus far is firsthand
accounts of my uncle. does anyone out there know
someone who may have served with pete in korea? he was
in the 334th squadron, and in-country from the fall of
1952 until then end of may, 1953.
because of the way pete died -- broke and trying to
fly a planeload of marijuana into miami -- there is a
real dearth of written information on his life. we
don't even need to mention the wings or history
channels; for his sins, they have ignored him
entirely.
thanks for letting me post this, and keep up the
excellent work here. this discussion board has the
most in-depth level of korean war discourse than i
have encountered anywhere on the net... congrats on
the millionth hit!
sincerely, jose c.
