Those of us who actually served in combat know that the CCF had a multitude of various weapons and had one heck of an ammo supply problem due to the different caliber weapons in use. I saw German P-38, Luger, Colt 45, S & W 45 rev. Slab side Mausers with the red 9 on the grip. Thompson Sub. MG we picked up every so often. Never saw any British weapons during my time. Not even a Webley rev.
When an American soldier dropped, the CCF, if they could, would get rid of their weapon and pick up a carbine or an M-! as they knew that ammo was all over the place for those weapons. Ammo supply for American weapons was not a problem, as all American's carried all they ammo they could. We always when bringing in a wounded man or a KIA, we always brought in the weapon, if it was still there.
That was the great thing about the M-1 as you could use ammo from the belt of a 30 cal. MG to reload the clips for the M-1 or the BAR. Carbine ammo sometimes was a bit of a problem, so I would trade off my carbine to a trucker for his M-1. Since the carbine was not very good for stopping anything further than 50 yards, I wanted the M-1. , While with the M-1, you could reach out and touch someone at over a 1,000 yards. There were times I had wished we were issued silencers. The CCF would not have known what was happening when they were hit.
