I suspect both did say what was quoted since the Turks were being judged
on 
their performance in Korea, which was outstanding and not on Turkey's 
political past.  And, in fact, history has shown that the Korean War 
solidified a friendship between Turkey and the U.S that has lasted since

then.  True, there have been ups and downs in this friendship, as
happens 
in all friendships, but they have supported us in the Mid-East even when
it 
cost them.
