Confirming kills
Along the lines of confirming kill, this is a true story:
Shortly after a new (American) colonel took command of LEOPARD - partisan
units and operations on North Korea's west coast - in early 1952, the
colonel (no names will be given) called a meeting of all the DONKEY unit
(Partisan companies) commanders and challenged their reported kill count
during ops on the mainland. All the Donkey leaders took exception to this
slight, especially the leader of Donkey 2. About three weeks later,
following a series of raids and operations on the mainland, Donkey 2 leader
showed up at Leopard Headquarters on Paengnyongj-do with a report these
raids and operations had killed 126 North Koreans. The dumb American
colonel challenged the account. At the point Donkey 2 leader went outside
and returned with two men carrying a box and dumped its contents on the
floor in front of the American colonel. The contents were 126 human male
members. Needless to say Donkey 2 leader proved his claim and the colonel
was reassigned shortly afterward to "other duties" in Seoul. From that
point on I don't think anyone in UNPFK ever questioned a kill count again.
