[KOREAN-WAR-L:11303] Sordid details RE: Fernandez death

Dear Cookie;

I have seven pages of a typed summary from a two-hour
telephone conversation with Gerry Hemming and Julie &
Jill Fernandez on Thursday. In addition, I have since
been contacted by the son of a former ATF agent, who
says he has more details about the final mission that
took Pete's life, and offered to put me in touch with
his father. He has warned me it is not as innocent as
I might hope. 

Here's the rub: I am not doing this to alienate
anyone. I hesitate to even send this story out to some
folks, for the details are extremely disturbing, and
not for those who are squeamish about cynical behavior
by our government agents. Certainly, a certain
percentage of readers -- especially patriotic veterans
-- will be so repelled by this stuff that they won't
want to deal with it. Many would find it so
disillusioning that they would have to rexamine
closely-held myths about how things work in the world.


I respect the wishes of these men. I don't propose
forcing anyone to confront anything they choose not
to; our happiness in this life is tenuous enough, and
I don't want to provoke anyone into feeling unhappy.
However, my personal ideals require me to follow
history wherever it may lead. Hence, I intend to post
this information on the Pete Fernandez webpage as soon
as I finish fashioning my notes into a narrative. 

For the above stated reasons, I will only send the
summary along to those who have interest in the
details.
